Downsyndrome screening test

The Downsyndrome screening test is a non-invasive method to identify higher risks of Down syndrome in developing babies. It cannot determine 100% if the fetus has Down syndrome.
The test includes:
- Age of the pregnant woman.
- A maternal serum screen (a bloodtest).
- An ultrasound (measurement of nuchal translucency).
Accuracy of the test is 85%. An increased risk (1:200 or higher) qualifies for prenatal diagnostic testing (Chorion Villus Sampling or amniocentesis).

Your midwife or family doctor can provide you more information.
